A girl who’s finally free #ForeverHoldYourPiece

Nina Simone said no fear is freedom.

I’m a girl who’s finally feeling free.

I met a fearless God the night when I stared at the sea and saw the stars align with the moon

The moon shined brighter than I had ever seen and sitting on the top of the moon was me.

A little brown girl was smiling big and bright right back at me.

I asked her about life and death-her preference of life or death.

I don’t want to die I told her. I want to be forever young, young forever, loved forever.

I know God is real when I got an answer.

I flew through the heavens and thought for the very first time I was worth more than I thought I was.

Maybe nothing means everything and life is just practice for something else.

Preparation for everything to come, but what if nothing happens?

But she told me death is only a moment of darkness; then it’s all light.

(So real/unreal) #ForeverHoldYourPiece

(So Real)

You make me feel so unreal

These sad days won’t last forever

I didn’t mean it when I said we’d stay together

Is it everyone else or me?

The title of my autobiography

You ain’t too proud to beg

I’m just tired of trying

Of crying

No matter how much time goes by

Or space you neglect to fill

Or how many times I question if what we had was real

Was what I felt real?

I’ll never forget how you made me feel

So unreal.

If only I could #ForeverHoldYourPiece

(If only I could)

I want to

Stop time

Say NO

Back track

If only I could change some things

I know I could win me back

If only I could control myself

Loosen up

Be honest

If only I could learn to compromise

Be a better friend

Listen more

Judge less

Love more

Put in the effort

Stay inspired

Only if I could

When it rains it pours #ForeverHoldYourPiece

(When it rains it pours)

Veterans get scarred from war then come back and be just as poor.

Poor like the people they’ve come across, whose homes have been tossed, countless lives that were lost, during that war.

Can’t find a job, no shelter in sight, doesn’t matter if your skin is dark or light bright, treating you like the rest of us people, (I would be tight).

Wondering if my current lifestyle was worth the fight.

My heart is torn. You mean to tell me I’m still a “nigga” even in uniform?

That’s got me all fucked up in the head… Even after the shit, I’ve seen overseas? Nah. That’s dead (literally).

I saw the Manchurian Candidate; my brother said that shit was light… “That movie shit will really fuck you up” he might be right.

It’s no way in hell I would willingly enroll myself to fight the devil’s fight. I can’t imagine.

Brainwashed into thinking you’re in it for a worthy cause, with Uncle Sam’s tight grip on your balls, believing there was a battle (but really you’re just strapped down between four walls).

Fighting for a cause, not really knowing the point. Lost count of the missiles you had to blow, now, just to be labeled “criminal.”

A thug because you got caught smoking a joint, what’s the point?

“We are the kindest, bravest, warmest people on this earth” thank God I know my worth (and a lie when I hear it).

After that rain…God’s promise right?

What do you say when there’s no rainbow in sight?

Mind reading days #ForeverHoldYourPiece

(Mind Reading Days)

I read minds nowadays, apparently

So how about I’ll work at that on Monday’s and Thursday’s only

Today is my off day

I don’t know what the hell you’re thinking

Me either, what am I thinking?

All my lines are all crossed

I go off of vibes; yours is peculiar

Only in a sense, you’re just distancing yourself from myself

From reality herself

“Today isn’t mind reading day” my mother would say

Who knew she could interpret the mush inside the brain that develops into a mystery

The mystery that signals and excites expression

That speaks to me louder than your actions

I know that’s not how it goes; it’s the other way around

But I don’t know, how you feel or what to say

Today isn’t mind reading day

We were happy. #ForeverHoldYourPiece

I looked you in your eyes tonight, and for the first time, I knew what it felt like to be loved.

Somewhere in between tomorrow and forever I could see us joint as one.

We were happy.

In between our gaze, I heard a pretentious vow:

“I was never a woman to believe in love at first sight, but everything’s changed since I met you.”

We are happy.

You elaborated on the strong connection turned fatal attraction and your contemplations of everlasting after everlasting.

We will be happy.

I entertain thoughts of spending the rest of my life with you; magic is not only for fairy tales.

I want love.

I’m in love in a time when love isn’t taken seriously…but I would be a fool to look at you again and not be prepared to say “I Do.”

I’m loved.
